Painting for my sister

Some weeks ago I started a painting for my sister. I am originally from Surinam (South America). Have I mentioned that already? So I will have to send this painting to Surinam. I am still working on the background and I suppose to make the painting as a page in my journal. It doesn't have to be exactly the same, but the theme is the same. To mention one difference: the background and the material. I am working on canvas, which measures 30 x 40 cm (11,8 x 15,7 inches). That makes the painting a bit larger than my Moleskine journal. The theme is Sisters. I miss her a lot and this is my way to tell her that. This is the journal page with the theme Sisters. I'll post a picture of the finished painting, of course:-)

Some old pages. Challenges, challenges .... they are to take, I guess. For me challenges are not easy; not at all, but they bring me somewhere. "Places" I never experienced. These "places" are in my inner. And in this inner a lot of things are possible. These challenges keep my mind off work. I work fulltime and I go to school two days in the week. The school starts at 16.00 o'clock. A lot is happening at work and these challenges open my eyes, make me live, create, enjoy.

What went on in my mind thinking I could draw the famous "Girl with the pearl earring". I don't know ... there is something in that painting, in the story of this girl (I watched the film once, but I don't know if it was the original...) that makes you wanna know her story. So I took the challenge and this is my project. I was a bit shocked that I succeeded and still have not added any colour:-(

Can I create more than girls faces? Appearantly, yes I can.

That was my chat for today. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday:-)

Journal page swap and finished painting

Hello dear friends,
Again a quiet Sunday. That gives me hours to play with paint, paper, glue, etc. I started to finish the chunky pages for the Circus is coming swap. I continued with the journal page swap for which monthly journal pages are to be made. The prompts of the month February are: "All you need is love - John Lennon and Cupid. Thought it would be easy, because one thing to use in both prompts are hearts. But that doesn't make a page yet.... I did not want to draw any face or Cupid and that was a challenge. I don't know why but I had the idea to make a page on which the paint is smeared out. Sound a bit strange? Now I just did my thing and of course I had some mistakes, but I totally love this page. Instead of a neat page I have a smeared page with the message under neat. Now I cross my fingers and hope that Deedee, for whom I made the pages, likes my messy page?!?! Let me know what you think☺

I also made a painting for my second daughter. It was finished in January this year. Love it!! She wanted a somewhat gothic painting. She is not gothic herself. The canvas measures 60 x 80 cm (23,6 x 31,4 inches). For me that is quite a large project. Now both of my daughters have a painting I made for them. The oldest didn't want such a large one, so she got a small painting. After seeing her sister's she pleads for a larger one. Should I? Help me on this one:))

For a postcrosser I created a postcard. She preferred handmade and that gives me another reason to play with paper and glue:-)) The image was painted a very long time ago and finally founds its spot.

Have a nice Sunday:-)

Tag swap @ dolldreams

And again, a finished project .... ehhhhh, I mean finished projectS! Yes projectS, because I had to make seven tags for seven partners! Now, I usually do not join swaps in which I have to make more than two projects. That's is too much for me ..... I just like to make one to two projects in a swap. What went wrong then? Well, afterwards I think I did not read the discussion well or forgot to ask how many tags we supposed to make. Nevertheless, the tags are ready and I had a wonderful time with this challenge. Sunday I went for the challenge; sadly enough two of the tags were damaged after I put a layer of beeswax on them. At night yesterday I started the drawings for these two tags. Today I finished them and I am so satisfied. Enjoy!!

Quiet Sunday

It is a quiet day and it feels so good on this day to reach for my creativity. Two art journal pages were produced today. I had to make an art journal page with the prompt "peace". This is how I expressed the word peace on a 5x7" cardstock.

I love this page so, so much that I grabbed my large Moleskine art journal to create a similar art journal page. There are some differences though: the wings, the dress, some decorations and the size of the pages. In my Moleskine I create a double spread. Love how it turned out and I also feel really good about this page.

A last treat, another page made a week ago in my large Moleskine. I love the blended colours. The ornament (on the right) is adhered with versamark ink and distress powder and the butterfly is a wooden butterfly; does it makes this page a 3D page?☺

A very, very beautiful doll dream page for Ana

How is your Sunday? We are having a nice Sunday here. About 14.00 o'clock we saw tiny little snow flocks. It stopped, so no white view. I had to work in the art journal from Ana from the dolldreams Round Robin. Last night I started drawing the doll. Today I continued the drawing, but when I had to draw her hair I hesitated which style I would do her hair. Should I gave her long whimsy hair or something else ..... See at the picture how she came out! I LOVE her, but I can't torn the page of someone's art journal????? Bad girl ...:-( I truly love this page; maybe it is the best to separate asap?!?!? Yes, that's the best thing to do. So tomorrow I will mail her to the next person who has to do her part in this RR.

Very proud of this product and separating of this page with pain in my heart. I hope you like it, Ana. Enjoy!♥

Practice drawing

Last year I decided to take a workshop to learn to draw. I love those dollies with big eyes, so I took the step. I was amazed to discover that I do a good job drawing. Here two pages created in my small Moleskine art journal. I made these pages last year. I love quirky types, but I love to try different styles. Still looking and searching for my own style. It is not easy to discover my own thing in drawing. But I don't try too hard on finding my own style. I think it will develop in time; for now I just enjoy what I create.

Another postcard

Another postcard made for a postcrosser, who prefers handmade cards. The image I used is in fact a colouring page. The pink background is cardstock which came with a membership card. The cardstock is sturdy enough and I like the pink stripes on it. It is a nice piece of cardstock, so I decided to use it as a background for this postcard. Cute isn't it?

Art journal pages

It has been a few days and I wanted to give you a glimpse of my entry in the last journal of the 15 artists, 15 journals, 15 months Round Robin I worked in. I am not so satisfied with the pictures, but it gives you a peek of the page.

Second page

The double page in one sight

At the moment I have no journals. Looking forward to the next to work in.

Two more art journal pages for the monthly art journal page swap I join at milliande.ning. The prompts of the month January are:
- One Word. Choose a word for 2012. A word that you might associate with some changes you would like to make
- Chupacabra. An interesting prompt, especially for those who appreciate "darker" subject matters.
Before this prompt I can't remember I ever heard of a chupacabra. Click the name if you would like to know what it is:-))

Have a nice Sunday☺

New idea

A postcrosser mentioned in her profile that she preferred handmade cards. I rather send a handmade card and I choose an image I coloured a while ago. The image is from Sweet pea stamps. It is coloured with Copic markers (sketch and ciao). To alter it on the card did not satisfied me, so I had an idea. Why not cut the cardstock with the same die cut I used for the image. Then I would lay the image in the opening of the card. I hope I make any sense?? So the image is not on top of the card, but lays in it. All went well and very satisfied I will send this card tomorrow to the United Kingdom. I coloured the cardstock with acrylic paints (Van Eyck acrylic paint viridian green, blue lake and FolkArt evergreen). A bit of glimmer mist (Tattered Angels cosmos) was sprayed on top of the card. With the help of a rubber stamp, an acrylic stamp and a stencil I finished the card. I am so satisfied with the finished product☺

Hosted swaps on art journal pages and handmade cards

Hello all of you, having a great time? Well, I enjoy these days in January. I slowed down on swaps for several reasons, but I still have some going on. It is a lot of fun joining swaps and I thought I would host some for this year. I will be hosting on swap-bot. So I started an art journal swap for every month of this year. Unfortunately I was late to start in January. That's why the first pages will be started in February. The swap for March is ready, so swappers are able to join. There are prompts to give participants a subject to work on. I learned these kind of pages on milliande and I still enjoy it. These pages will be collected and bound in an art journal book. This will be a very lifely book full of pages of different people around the world.

The prompts for February are:
Prompt 1: Describe in one word how you entered/started this year 2012. Express this word on your art journal page.

Prompt 2: Something I did in 2011that I certainly will do/have to do again in 2012.

Hmmm, that gives us something to think about, doesn't it? Well, it is positive thinking and here are my pages.

The end of 2011 brought some difficulties for me. It seems as if everything around me broke. The front doorknob, the bicycles, the washing machine and so on ... Instead of going crazy, I thought of solving my problems and I did. At the end of 2011 I had this feeling of relief, satisfaction. And knowing I am not done yet, I still am satisfied of every solved problem. YES, I CAN!!

In 2011 I had frequently contact with my sister. And that is one thing I would like to continue, because I miss my family a LOT. Thus expressed on the second page. On the labels: keep frequently in touch with my sister who lives in Surinam.

Then I hosted handmade cards swaps at swap-bot with the following themes: First month of 2012 challenge and A bit distressed handmade card swap. I made two cards in each swap, because I am hosting the swaps with the same themes for the Handmade cards group and one for everyone who wish to participate.
My cards:

I used the first card as an example for the swap.

My cards for the "A bit distressed" theme:
The first card is used as example for the swap. The little heart on the second card is a wooden heart. That is really cute.

Another swap, an ATC

Hello everyone, I haven't made ATC's for a while. But then someone approached me for a swap. This lady (USA), very sweet in her communications, likes Alice in Wonderland. Not into ATC's now, but could I draw Alice? Should I try? She told me I could make whatever I want. Challenges, challenges ......
I wondered if I could draw Alice, maybe not a look-a-like, but a bit close. Hmmmm, I wondered, got paper and started. I knew I would colour her with Copic markers, so I drew her on large Copic marker paper - size A3-, had to minimize her .... it should be the size for an ATC (2,5x3,5 inch)! As you can imagine: the journey started already !

Ever imagined Alice in Wonderland with big dolls eyes? Well, here she is. She has no eyelashes, because as small as she is on the ATC, the eyelashes may predominate her face. Satisfied with her body or pose, yes!, well her face ..... at least I have my own Alice in Wonderland:-) And I love the cat, so cute.

The original will be coloured and will conquer a place in a large art journal, once .....

Black & white Madness chunky pages

Chunky pages are fun to make. These are 4x4 inch pages and as the name says, I chunk or embellish the pages with ribbon, charms or cute chains. At the moment I like projects that do not take a lot of time. I made six pages. For the Black & white Madness 4x4 chunky page swap I created four pages to exchange. Two pages are for myself. After this swap I'll sort all chunky pages to see if I have enough for a nice chunky book to bind. If I have enough pages I will stop making these pages for a while and concentrate on art journals and paintings. After all, I wanted to try these pages out and collect some pages for one chunky book. And I am not a collector of all kinds of things...

It was fun to make, so I made two pages to keep.

Good news, good news!! My daughter just came in with the mail of today. I received two beautiful art journal pages from Mary@milliande (UK):-) The prompts for the month December are:
* Tis the season to be...
* My wish/dream/goal for the new year is...

Thanks a lot, Mary!

Creations in Round Robin

These pages are my entries in another art journals in 2011. For some reason I did not post the pictures. No reason not to post, so here are they.

Lucine for Rachel: second page

My second page for Rachel. It was so much fun and I am happy with the joy on these pages.

Purple Owl Tree, doodle flower

That is the theme of Rachel's art journal. She started very nice and I wondered what kind of page I could create. Of course my hands were itching to draw a dolly, but then I changed my mind. It can't be seen on the picture, but the girl has some cute gold curls in her hair. On different places there are nice glitters added with atyouSpica. I will not type a lot; see for yourself. I like the page very, very much. It is so what whimsical and that is in one line with my feelings right now. Nothing too serious, because life already is:-3 I am entering two pages in Rachel's journal. The second page is almost finished and a photo will be uploaded.

A doodle flower I draw and coloured last year. Quite awake one night and it was hard to fall asleep. I just grabbed my Moleskine and draw/coloured this flower. Not to see on the picture but it has nice glitters added with atyouSpica.
